Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?

Your massage therapist will require you to fill out a health history form. This can be done during your registration process online by indicating any health issues in our comment box. When you arrive for your appointment, the therapist will inquire further to establish the areas of concentration and determine which technique is appropriate for you. Your massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition, and to see if you have any presenting complaints.

Where will my massage session take place?

Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a heated table especially designed for your comfort. If you prefer that the table not be heated, please tell your therapist. It’s always suggested to start by lying on your back to warm it up. The therapist may choose to work on you either face-up or facedown.

What do I wear during the massage?

For a full body massage, most people undress completely. You may choose to wear underwear. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except for the area being worked on. At no time will you ever be exposed. We will also not perform any massages undraped.

What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?

RELAX. Leave the work for your therapist. Don’t try to help them. Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, she or he will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It’s up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time. Tell the therapist if your pressure is too light or too deep.

How will a massage feel?

It usually depends on the techniques used. Many massage therapists use a form of Swedish massage, which is often a baseline for practitioners. Most of our therapists combine advanced techniques such as Sports, Cross-fiber friction and Trigger point therapy to help with muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. Do not hesitate to ask questions or mention if you feel any discomfort so that the massage therapist can use another approach or technique.

Will the massage oils leave me greasy?

Our massage therapists use hypoallergenic massage oils or lotions such as Biotone. However, if you have sensitivity to certain types of oils or lotion please bring it to the massage therapist’s attention.

Is a massage always appropriate?

No, there are several medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate. The medical intake form you fill out helps the therapist determine if you have any contraindications. You are encouraged to get a written recommendation from your doctor prior to your session.

How long does a massage treatment last?

The average full-body massage treatment lasts approximately one hour to seventy-five minutes. Most people prefer a 60- to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation. This also allows the therapists to work longer in troubled areas and provide thorough and full treatment for the muscles. Give yourself few minutes before and after your sessions to relax.

How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment?

You may feel completely relaxed or rejuvenated depending upon the style of therapy you has received. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling sedated, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness and greater productivity, which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage. We encourage Epsom Salt baths to help with any soreness, which may occur after your session, to release toxins that may have been stirred up from the massage treatment.

Do you take health insurance or can you bill my health insurance?

We do not take any insurance at this time. If your doctor prescribes myofasical release (massage), then you can turn this in to your health insurance. We can provide invoices of treatments of your therapy sessions. Some individuals with a health savings account or flex spending get this written off.
